Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Chatham-Kent late Saturday, cautioning that multiple thunderstorms could dump more than 50 millimetres of rain on the region between overnight hours and Sunday afternoon.
The warning, issued at 8:57 p.m. EDT and covering the Chatham-Kent–Rondeau Park area, said rainfall would ease from west to east through the day Sunday as the system moves across the region.
Environment Canada rated the impact level as moderate and said its forecast confidence was high.
The weather agency warned that water is likely to pool on roads and in low-lying areas, and said some property damage is possible as a result of the heavy rain.
“Don’t drive through flooded roadways,” the warning states, adding that residents should also watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Environment Canada directed residents seeking information on flooding to contact their local conservation authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and pointed to Ontario.ca/floods for further updates.
