The VON SMART Team will be at the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre this Friday, Aug. 7, for Mobility Matters Checkups, and appointment times are still available.
The free checkup takes 10 to 15 minutes and includes four functional exercise tests to assess mobility, balance, leg strength and endurance: the Timed Up and Go test, the 30-Second Chair Stand, the 4-Stage Balance Test and the Floor Transfer Test. Participants will receive personalized results and tips to support healthy aging.
The program is open to residents in retirement communities and other community members across Chatham-Kent. Organizers say mobility should be assessed on a regular basis, much like annual medication reviews, to identify possible areas of concern and offer solutions to enhance independence. The checkup is meant to be repeated every six months so participants can track their progress over time.
Friday’s session begins at 9:45 a.m. in the upstairs boardroom of the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre. Sign-up is required, with time slots available on the sign-up sheet at the Centre.
Those interested in reserving an appointment can call the WAAC office at 519-627-6224, or stop by the Centre before 4 p.m. Thursday.
Anyone with questions about the Mobility Matters Checkup can call 519-352-5515 and press 2.
