CUPE to release report on Ontario hospital funding crisis at Chatham event

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is set to release a new research report examining the impact of provincial funding policies on Ontario’s hospital sector at a media conference in Chatham on Thursday, August 6.

The report, titled “Pushed over the brink: the escalating assault on Ontario’s hospitals,” examines chronic underfunding and increasing privatization of health-care services, and includes new data on Chatham’s hospital deficit, available working capital to pay day-to-day bills, bed occupancy rates, and the additional funds and staff CUPE says are needed to meet average spending per capita in other provinces.

The findings will be presented at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 6 at Thames Campus Arena, 999 Grand Ave. W. in Chatham, by Michael Hurley, president of CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, and Doug Allan, senior researcher at CUPE National.
