It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Rodney James Murphy, who left us on August 4, 2026. Rod is survived by his children, Jessica and Kyle; his siblings Richard (Heather), Randy (Caroline), Terry, George, and Michael; and his former wife, Wendy. He is reunited with parents Barb Morris, George Murphy and Ruth Murphy.
Rod was born in Wallaceburg and grew up near the Port Lambton area, working beside his family on the farm. He spent many summers camping with cousins, swimming in The Snye, and working at Camp Kenesserie. As a teenager, he enjoyed running cross country and woodworking.
Rod moved to London to attend Fanshawe College for construction and later HVAC. In 1990, he married Wendy and started growing his family. Together they were involved in their church community and Rod continued renovating each house into a home for his family. He was a proud and loving father to his children. He appreciated engaging in conversation about books and movies with his son Kyle; comparing knowledge and learning from each other. Jessica grew up biking with Rod from childhood grocery runs to biking the paths of Ottawa as adults. In recent years, they also loved exploring nature by kayaking together.
Rod’s work ethic was admired by all. He was a dedicated and hard worker during his time at Kaiser Aluminum, Kellogg’s Canada until their closure, and most recently Royal Canin. He worked as a line operator and packaging mechanic, in addition to handyman jobs for friends and family.
In recent years he dedicated much of his time caring for his mother before she passed. Rod loved his family deeply. He cared about them and for them even when he didn’t have words to express it. He loved helping people and was always the happiest when he had a project on the go. He was a good friend, a patient listener, a kind-hearted uncle, and a dependable man with a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231) on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 12:30pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:30pm.
