WAMBO is the heartbeat of the weekend, and organizers say one of this year’s biggest expansions will be found just a short shuttle ride away. Firetrucks For WAMBO is moving to a new, much larger site to make room for an impressive lineup of vintage buses, motorcoaches, firetrucks and specialty vehicles arriving for Saturday’s display.
In an interview with Brent DeNure – Director of Firetrucks For WAMBO, he explained that the growing interest in large‑scale vehicles meant the downtown footprint could no longer contain the full showcase. The committee will be using the old Bedrooms & More furniture warehouse on the bend of Highway 40 as you enter Wallaceburg from the south side. The location offers the space needed to bring in more large vehicles. They will also be setting up portable washrooms and wash stations as well as food vendors there.
To keep things easy for visitors, a shuttle will run from downtown to the new site beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Organizers expect between 40 and 50 large vehicles to be on display, many with histories that stretch far beyond the local community.
Among the highlights is a firetruck connected to the events of 9/11 in New York, a Philadelphia firetruck that has appeared in major motion pictures, and a tour bus once used by Journey and featured in the music video for “Faithfully”. Another bus arriving this year was used by Mötley Crüe and appeared in their “Home Sweet Home” video.
The expanded site gives WAMBO the chance to showcase vehicles that enthusiasts rarely get to see up close, adding a new dimension to a weekend already known for its cars, boats and community spirit.
