Our mom is now reunited with the love of her life. Mom passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the St. Andrews Residence, in Chatham, at the age of 93 years. She was born in Wallaceburg and was a daughter of the late George and Marguerite (Rose) Rabideau. She now is with our late father Modest Vande Velde (2017).
Loving mother of Cathy (Gerry), Charlene (Stan), Raymond (Barbara), Richard (Bonnie), Michele (Curtis) and Carolyn (Larry). Dear grandmother of Lyn, Chris, Allan (Jessie) Tyson (Kerrie), Katey (Josh), Brian (Haley), Chris (Tiffany), Bradley (Carolanne), Joshua (Amanda), Jennifer (Dan) and Kyle. She will always be cherished by 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by a daughter Elizabeth and all her siblings the late Wilfred, Elmer, Marie, Mildred, Rita, Eleanor, Geraldine, Josephine, Floyd, George Jr., Reginald, Clarice, Marguerite and Gregory. She will be also missed by many nieces and nephews. Evelyn Loved to go fishing and camping. She volunteered many hours as a Brownie/Girl Guide Leader and had more than 20 years serving the Breakfast Program at St. Elizabeth School. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with the grand and great grandchildren. She always loved her pets and will mostly be remembered for her love of Bailey.
The late Evelyn Vande Velde is resting at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home (639 Elgin St. N8A 3C6) Wallaceburg. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday August 13, 2026 from Our Lady of Help Church at 11 am. Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg. Memorial contributions are asked to be forwarded to the St. Andrews Residence, in Chatham or to any donation of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
