Chatham woman charged with impaired driving after refusing breath test

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 39-year-old Chatham woman is facing impaired driving charges after police say she refused to provide a breath sample at the station.

Police received a complaint of erratic driving on Bear Line at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 10. Officers located the vehicle on McNaughton Avenue and initiated a traffic stop.

Police requested the driver provide a sample of her breath into an approved screening device. After the device registered a “Fail,” she was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters for further testing. Once at the station, she refused to provide samples into an approved instrument.

She is facing charges of refusal to comply with demand and operation while impaired by alcohol.

She was released on a Form 10 with a court date of Sept. 15, 2026.
