OPP investigating fatal incident in Moraviantown

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal incident on Eelünaapéewi Lahkéewiit (Delaware Nation at Moraviantown).

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, shortly before midnight, Middlesex County OPP was initially notified of an individual who had been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced deceased. Investigators believe the 33-year-old Chatham resident may have sustained injuries as a result of an incident on River Line within Eelünaapéewi Lahkéewiit.

The circumstances that resulted in the fatal injuries remain under investigation. Investigators are working to determine what occurred and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Elgin County OPP crime unit is now conducting the investigation under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by the Eelünaapéewi Lahkéewiit Police Service, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Middlesex County OPP, and the OPP’s west region emergency response team, canine unit and forensic identification services.

Police are asking residents, businesses and anyone who was in the area of River Line on the evening of Saturday, July 25, 2026, to review any surveillance or dashcam footage and contact police if they have information that may assist the investigation.
