Watford youth facing multiple charges after series of disturbances at business

OPP officials allege: A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after a series of disturbances at a business in Watford last week.

The Lambton County OPP said officers first responded to a disturbance at the business shortly after 6 a.m. on Aug. 16. Following an investigation, the youth was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 (shoplifting) and mischief for destroying or damaging property. The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia at a later date.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. the same day, officers responded to another disturbance at a business in Watford involving the same youth. The youth was arrested again and charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, mischief for destroying or damaging property, theft under $5,000 (shoplifting) and an indecent act in a public place. The youth was again released from custody with a future court date in Sarnia.

Shortly after 7 p.m., police were called back to the business after the youth returned. Officers located and arrested the youth, laying an additional charge of failure to comply with an undertaking.

The youth was held for a bail hearing and has since been released from custody.

The youth’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
