It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Helen Marjorie (Mater) Williams.
Loving mother to Michelle (Todd) Bidner and Kevin (Amy) Dobbyn. Very proud Grammie to Dylan Carter, Colton Bidner, Alexa and Aidan Dobbyn, Sophie and Sadie Williams.
Also survived by brother Bob Mater and sister Mona Begg, nieces, nephews and cousins, bonus children Jaymie, Don and Karen Brown and Brodie Williams.
Helen was pre-deceased by her husband Ernie Williams in 2017.
Helen was born July 24, 1945 in Dawn Township to Llewellyn & Kathleen Mater. After high school she didn’t venture too far from the farm and then moved to Petrolia in 1970 and has resided in the same house for 55 years. Helen worked at Polymer/Polysar/BASF for 25 years until the plant closed. It wasn’t time to retire though, so she bought a limousine and then she and Ernie grew Heritage Limousine to a fleet of 13 over the next 18 years.
Maude street will not be the same without her seasonal decorations, especially Christmas adorning the front and back lawns and interior of her house. She loved gardening and won many yard contests over the years. Helen always had a project on the go whether it was a craft of some kind, ancestry research or repurposing garage sale finds.
There will be a huge void that Helen leaves with her family, friends and neighbours.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at C.E.E. hospital in Petrolia and the numerous friends and family that visited, especially during mealtime and a special thank you to Wayne (String) Hewitt for always being there for Mom. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at the Lions Hall, 451 Huggard St, Petrolia, on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Donations to the Bluewater Health Foundation C.E.E. Site (c/o 89 Norman Street, Sarnia, ON) or the Petrolia Lions Club (c/o 451 Huggard St., Petrolia ON. N0N 1R0) would be appreciated.
