The Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has recovered the body of a second swimmer who went missing this weekend, this time in Lake Huron at Pinery Provincial Park, following the earlier recovery of a swimmer who had gone missing in the Ausable River in Grand Bend.
Police say that on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, just before 3 p.m., officers received a report of another missing swimmer who was last seen at the Pinery Provincial Park beach.
The Lambton OPP Marine Unit and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit assisted in the recovery of the body at approximately 8:20 p.m. The deceased individual is a 36-year-old from Scarborough.
Lambton OPP would like to thank OPP Aviation, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Sarnia Fire, and the park wardens at Pinery Provincial Park for their prompt and relentless efforts in helping locate the missing swimmer.
The recovery comes a day after officers responded to a separate incident in Grand Bend. Police say that on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, just before 3 p.m., officers received a report of a missing 66-year-old individual from London who was last seen at a dock attached to an address on Canal Street in Grand Bend.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, along with the Lambton Marine Unit, located the body of that missing swimmer.
