Man charged after spitting incident leads to foot chase in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police have charged a Chatham man with assault after an altercation at a Grand Avenue West business led to a brief foot pursuit.

Police were called to the business on Thursday, Sept. 3, at approximately 9:02 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault.

Officers learned that a man had spit on an employee before leaving the area on foot.

A short time later, police located the man. He attempted to flee, sparking a brief foot pursuit before he was taken into custody.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and resisting arrest.

He was taken to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing.
