The Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Management Unit is reminding drivers that a stopped school bus means children may be entering or leaving the roadway.
Police say that when drivers see flashing red lights or an extended stop arm, they must stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the bus begins to move.
Vehicle owners can be charged if their vehicle illegally passes a stopped school bus, even if they were not driving at the time, police say.
The unit is asking drivers to slow down, stay alert and help keep students safe.
