A three-year commitment to the future of health care in Wallaceburg has officially been fulfilled.
Members of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary presented Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation with a $30,000 donation on Sept. 18, completing the auxiliary’s $100,000 pledge in support of the Our Hospital, Our Future Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign.
The auxiliary first announced its $100,000 commitment in July 2024, beginning with a $35,000 contribution, followed by another $35,000 installment in 2025. This year’s final $30,000 payment completes the pledge in full.
“This is such an important milestone, and one that speaks volumes about the dedication of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary,” said Christine Mitchell, CKHAF president and CEO. “For three years, these incredible volunteers have worked toward a promise they made to their hospital and their community. Today, we get to celebrate that promise being fulfilled and the $100,000 impact they have made on the future of healthcare in Wallaceburg.”
Funds supporting the pledge have been raised through the auxiliary’s volunteer-led efforts, including the Serendipity Gift Shop at CKHA’s Wallaceburg site.
“Our Auxiliary members are incredibly proud to have completed this commitment to the Wallaceburg hospital,” said Lynne Labadie, president of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary. “This hospital means so much to the people in our community, and our volunteers have worked very hard over the past three years to help support its future. We are grateful to everyone who shops at the Serendipity Gift Shop and supports our fundraising efforts, because they have all played a part in helping us reach this milestone.”
The Our Hospital, Our Future campaign is helping support the community’s local share of the Wallaceburg Site Redevelopment Project, which will modernize the hospital’s 24/7 Emergency Department, six medicine beds including a palliative care bed, diagnostic imaging with X-ray and ultrasound, and laboratory services.
The Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary was established in 1957 and has spent decades supporting patient care at the Wallaceburg site through volunteer service and fundraising initiatives.
