Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 39-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing impaired driving and driving-while-suspended charges after a RIDE checkpoint in Dresden early Saturday.
Chatham-Kent police were conducting the checkpoint on North Street at about 12:20 a.m. when officers saw a vehicle appear to change its course of travel to avoid it. Police located the vehicle a minute later and initiated a traffic stop.
Police say the driver failed an Approved Screening Device test and was arrested. He was taken to police headquarters for further testing, where breath samples were obtained and the readings exceeded the legal limit. Police say further investigation revealed he was driving while under suspension.
The man was charged with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus and driving while under suspension. He was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4.
