CK Public Health seeks volunteer to coordinate community gardens

Chatham-Kent Public Health is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of community garden coordinator, helping to support and strengthen community gardens throughout the municipality.

The position is an opportunity for residents passionate about gardening, community engagement and local food initiatives to make a meaningful impact in their community.

Community gardens play an important role in promoting access to fresh food, encouraging physical activity, supporting mental well-being and bringing people together. The volunteer coordinator will work with local site leaders and public health staff to help coordinate garden activities, support volunteers, organize resources and assist with garden maintenance projects.

“Community gardens create opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills, and grow fresh food close to home,” said Councillor Carmen McGregor, chair of the CK Food Policy Council. “We’re looking for someone who wants to help these valuable community spaces continue to thrive.”

The role offers opportunities to build leadership and communication skills, gain hands-on project experience, expand gardening knowledge and support community well-being. Training and mentoring are provided.
