Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 27-year-old Chatham man is facing eight charges after allegedly breaking into a residence and assaulting a woman in Chatham on Oct. 4.
Chatham-Kent police responded to a report of a dispute at a residence at approximately 7:39 a.m. The investigation determined the accused, who was in breach of court-ordered conditions, broke into the residence of a 23-year-old woman. Police allege he damaged property, uttered threats and assaulted the victim by striking her in the face, causing a minor injury. The accused also allegedly assaulted the victim’s dog; no injuries to the animal were reported.
The accused surrendered himself to police and was charged with two counts of breach of recognizance, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, two counts of mischief, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, assault, and uttering threats.
He was arrested and transported to South West Detention Centre, where he remained in custody until his next scheduled video court appearance on Monday.
