Hospice resident offers $100,000 matching gift to Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation

A Chatham-Kent Hospice resident and longtime health-care professional has committed a $100,000 matching gift to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.

Willi Kirenko, a registered nurse and nurse practitioner for more than 45 years, and her husband, Nestor, are giving community members a chance to double the impact of their donations. For a limited time, every dollar donated will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

Kirenko spent nine years providing end-of-life care before she became a resident at Chatham-Kent Hospice, where she is now experiencing the care she once provided to others.

“I now understand Hospice in a way I never could before—as a resident. I know firsthand what this care provides: comfort when things are difficult, compassion when words aren’t enough, and the reassurance that no one has to face the end of life alone,” Kirenko said.

The couple have become ambassadors for hospice care and are inviting community members to join them in helping ensure individuals and families have access to compassionate, specialized end-of-life care.
