The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association’s Canadian Tire U18C girls’ team had what the association called an unforgettable experience at the WickFest tournament in Milton last weekend.
The weekend began with an opening party at the Hockey Hall of Fame, hosted by Hayley Wickenheiser, with special guests and Olympic gold medallists Jennifer Botterill and Angela James.
Wickenheiser also gifted the team the Gatorade Room experience before its first tournament game. The room was set up like a professional dressing room, with personalized nameplates for every player, swag and a preseason pep talk from Wickenheiser.
The first game brought some unexpected challenges, including an injury to the team’s goalie in the first period and a teammate stepping in to suit up in goalie gear. The association said the girls kept their spirits high, had a blast and made memories that will last a lifetime.
“What an incredible opportunity for our girls to learn, grow, and experience the game alongside some truly inspiring women in hockey!” the association said.
