This year marks the 5th Annual A Nightmare on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.
What started as a single home with an ever-increasing elaborate display, has grown into multi-property home haunt involving several neighbours.
“Every year we try and make the displays bigger and better and this year will be no different,” said participant Josh Thompson.
He explained that the name A Nightmare on Nelson Street is an homage to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
“When I was a kid, I loved going to the homes that went all out on decorations for Halloween,” said Thompson’s wife, Kristen. “It was always my dream to live on a block where every house decorated and all the kids flocked to.”
So when the Spencers moved in next door, the dream soon started becoming a reality.
The couple and their children have been working for weeks to bring trick-or-treaters a spooktacular experience.
An electric chair, gallows and guillotine have been set up for photo ops.
And to mark the milestone year, A Nightmare on Nelson Street has partnered with the Wallaceburg Business Improvement Area to offer a day, evening and night of frightfully fun events.
Beginning at 10 a.m., Wallaceburgers and visitors can head to James Street for the Boo Bash. The event, geared towards children of all ages, will include games, a costume contest, the Whimsical Witches of Wallaceburg and a visit from the Chatham-Kent Police Service offering safety tips, reflective arm bands and candy.
There will also be Halloween trivia posted throughout downtown, photo ops and raffle prizes.
Check the Wallaceburg BIA Facebook page for times and further details.
Beginning at 5 p.m., A Nightmare on Nelson Street opens for trick-or-treaters.
Then at 7 p.m., the Zombie Pub Crawl begins at the Wallaceburg Legion with participants making stops at the Stubby Goat and Glasstown Brewing Co.
