OPP place 119 commercial vehicles out of service in Project Safe Haul across West Region

Ontario Provincial Police placed 119 commercial vehicles out of service for safety defects during a three-week enforcement initiative across West Region.

Project Safe Haul ran from Oct. 13 to Nov. 1. Officers and inspectors took part in 22 enforcement blitzes, completed 325 commercial vehicle inspections and laid 266 charges.

Police say the project is meant to improve road safety by identifying unsafe commercial vehicles and addressing regulatory non-compliance. The OPP thanked the Ministry of Transportation, municipal police services and other partners, and also thanked professional drivers and carriers who maintain their vehicles and follow safe practices.

“Project Safe Haul reinforces the importance of compliance and proactive vehicle maintenance,” said Staff Sgt. Tara Bolstad of West Region OPP Traffic Safety and Marine. “While enforcement remains an important tool, we also recognize and appreciate the many drivers and carriers who consistently operate safely and professionally. Their commitment contributes significantly to safer roads across Ontario.”
