A truck driver from Texas faces impaired driving charges after accidentally crossing over into Canada this week.
OPP officials say on June 7, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the Canadian Border Services Agency located at the Bluewater Bridge, Point Edward to investigate an allegation of impaired driving.
OPP officials say upon further investigation it was discovered that an American truck driver, while enroute to Buffalo, N.Y. had unintentionally entered Canada.
As members of the Canadian Border Services inspected the driver, tractor and trailer; it was allegedly discovered that the driver was impaired by the consumption of an alcoholic beverage. As a result, the driver provided a breath sample of allegedly nearly three times the legal limit.
The driver of the transport truck, A 26 year-old man from Fort Worth, Texas has been arrested and charged with alleged impaired driving and have over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The driver was released on a cash recognizance and is to appear at the Sarnia Court House on July 10, 2017.
