Committee members are eyeing WAMBO weekend as a potential opening for the long-awaited Wallaceburg Splash Pad.

Chris Young, chairman of the local committee, said there have been a couple of weather delays and a few other minor setbacks, but things are still moving forward at the Splash Pad.

“There are a lot of elements to bring together and everyone has been going above and beyond to bring this project together,” Young posted on social media on Wednesday.

“Thanks to everyone. Your efforts are appreciated more than words can ever express.”

Young said the work crews are working on having the Splash Pad functioning for WAMBO weekend, which runs August 11, 12 and 13.

He said there will be temporary barricades and caution tape up around the Splash Pad to protect the landscaping, so the grass can get established .

“There will be a clearly marked pathway leading to the Splash Pad and would ask that everyone use it for the time being,”he said.

“Please respect the barricades and the caution tape and enjoy yourselves once the Splash Pad opens.”

Young said the group will update their Facebook page with the latest news about the project.

“We will let you know when the water is turned on and splashing can begin,” he said.

A ribbon cutting event is in the works and will follow shortly after the unofficial opening of the Splash Pad.

“Please keep in mind, even though the Splash Pad is built, your donations are still required to help finish paying for the project,” he said.
