Police issue warning about fraudulent emails

The Chatham-Kent Police continues to receive complaints from citizens regarding fraudulent emails.

Police officials say the latest one asked the recipient to buy three $100 iTunes gift cards for a colleague who was currently undergoing surgery.

“The author asked the recipient to send pictures of the gift cards showing the sixteen digit pin on the back,” police said in a media release.

“The author advised they couldnā€™t buy the gift cards as they were travelling, but assured the recipient that they would pay them back upon their return.”

Luckily, the recipient recognized this as a fraudulent email and did not buy the gift cards.

Polie say if you receive a similar email, please delete it immediately and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm
