Freezing drizzle advisory in effect

A freezing rain warning had ended across Chatham-Kent and a freezing drizzle advisory is now in place.

“Freezing drizzle tonight and Thursday morning,” forecasters say.

“Periods of freezing drizzle are expected to affect the region through tonight and into Thursday morning when temperatures are forecast to rise above zero. Challenging winter travelling conditions are expected today through Thursday due to the prolonged period of icing.”

Environment Canada officials sa y in the wake of this weather system, strong westerly winds with gusts in the 60 to 80 km/h range may be possible.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”

Freezing drizzle advisories are issued when drizzle falling in sub-zero temperatures is expected to freeze on contact, and over time create icy surfaces, forecasters say.
