The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has immediate employment opportunities at Riverview Gardens for the position of Resident Support Worker.
The Municipality hopes to fill approximately 20 vacancies over the next month, Municipal officials say.
“Long-term care homes are searching for health care workers and other in-demand staff,” stated Mary Alice Searles, Director of Seniors Services at Riverview Gardens, in a media release.
“The growing demand for Resident Support Worker care is felt in communities across Ontario due to an aging population, but also because of staffing pressures and PSW shortages as made evident during COVID-19 pandemic.”
The joint project of Senior Services and Employment and Social Services has the added benefit of finding employment for individuals who have been impacted by the economic effects of COVID-19.
“Because of COVID our community is experiencing high unemployment and changing labour needs,” said Matt Keech, Program Manager with Chatham-Kent Employment & Social Services, in a media release.
“We want to support workers who have been laid off by connecting them to these in-demand career opportunities as quickly as possible. Interested applicants can visit www.chatham-kent.ca/jobs to view and apply to open municipal positions such as the Resident Support Worker opportunity.”
Keech added: “People requiring help with applying for these or any other opportunity may find support by calling the Chatham-Kent Employment Resource Centre at 519-436-1123 and speaking with one of our Employment Resource Advisors. The advisors can help with resume updates, job search resources, leads, and information on area employers.”
The Resident Support Worker role is essential to supporting residents of Riverview Gardens, Municipal officials say.
Staff are kept busy completing tasks such as making beds, tidying rooms, assisting with feeding, one-on-one visits with residents, and other non-nursing duties.
The Resident Support Worker position is an entry level opportunity that may be of interest to applicants with experience in the Human Services sector or suitable for those seeking a career in this area.
Strong soft skills such as being reliable, hardworking, a team player, and willing to learn on the job will be of benefit, Municipal officials added.
“A career in long term care can be challenging, however, is incredibly rewarding,” Searles added.
