Hope Haven installs a Little Free Pantry

In an effort to continue helping the community, Hope Haven has installed a Little Free Pantry.

Hope Haven officials say everyone is invited to put non-perishable groceries in the pantry, and everyone is invited to take from it if they need to.

“We have seen a 120% increase over the last six months,” stated Loree Bailey, general manager, in a media release.

“More people are coming to the Haven everyday.”

Hope Haven officials say the pantry is intended not for people donating to the Haven, but for the entire community to use.

It is not a drop box for donations to Hope Haven, officials added.

“Chatham-Kent is a very caring and generous community,” Bailey said.

“People want to help. Picking up an extra can of soup with your regular groceries and adding it to the pantry isn’t going to have a huge impact on your grocery bill, but that can of soup might be a family’s supper. You just never know.”

Hope Haven is open every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving a hearty meal, offering free showers, laundry, internet and telephone to anyone who needs it.

The new Little Free Pantry is located at the side of the Haven, 183 Wellington St. W. in Chatham.
