School buses cancelled due to icy conditions, freezing rain warning continues, other cancellations & closures

With a freezing rain warning in place by Environment Canada, school buses have been cancelled on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Student Transportation Services officials say buses in all zones are cancelled for the day.

Buses in all zones have been cancelled today due to the widespread icy road conditions and forecast.

St. Clair Catholic District School Board officials say all schools and board offices remain open.

“Kinderstart events at St. Joseph in Corunna and St. Elizabeth in Wallaceburg are also cancelled,” Catholic School Board officials say.

“A rescheduled date will be announced later.”

Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig on Walpole Island is closed for the day.

Wallaceburg Christian School is also closed for the day.

Environment Canada says the freezing rain is ending near midday.

Hazards, include: A period of freezing rain leading to ice build up and ice accretion of 2 to 4 mm possible.

“Freezing rain will transition to rain or snow near midday and then eventually periods of rain or drizzle this evening as temperatures rise above zero,” forecasters say.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.”
