Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 2:54 p.m., police responded to a theft investigation at a retail business on St. Clair Street, near Pioneer Line, in Chatham.
Upon arrival officers learned the man entered the store and filled two carts of merchandise.
The man left the store with the merchandise without making any attempts to pay for the items.
By using the information received regarding vehicle and direction of travel, officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 40 and conducted a traffic stop south of Claymore Line.
During the interaction, the man provided the officer with a false name.
Once he was positively identified, the officer learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.
Further investigation revealed a female passenger was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing.
He is currently facing the following charges: theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing police, failing to attend court, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
The 41-year-old Walpole Island woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was released with conditions and a future court date of October 7, 2024.
She is currently facing the following charges: three counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.
