Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege on February 21, 2025, at approximately 5:45 p.m., several calls were received through 911 regarding what was believed to be an explosion in the Ridgetown area, with numerous structures experiencing tremors.
All Chatham-Kent Emergency Services attended the area to investigate.
No explosions were located, and the source of the incident was believed to be an earthquake.
As a result, Environment Canada was contacted and confirmed that at 5:40 p.m. an earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale occurred approximately 30 kilometers east of Chatham.
There were no reports of any injuries or property damage as a result of the earthquake.
As previously reported, Earthquakes Canada officials confirmed the earthquake, 31 km East of Chatham, at a depth of 10 km.
“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” Earthquakes Canada officials say.
“It is very unlikely that an earthquake of magnitude less than 5 could cause any damage,” Earthquakes Canada officials added.
