Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On July 13th, 2025 at 3:30 a.m. Sarnia Fire and the Sarnia Police Service responded to a fire in an unoccupied house located in the 1100 block of Confederation Street, in the City of Sarnia.
The fire caused significant damage to the interior structure of the home.
First responders could smell an odour of gasoline upon their response.
There were no injuries or damage to adjacent structures.
Fire investigators determined that the fire appeared to be intentionally set.
As a result, the (now criminal) investigation was taken over by the Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Division.
Police investigation located evidence of an individual bringing an object, resembling a gas can, into the home just before the fire ignited.
Further evidence of a hot plate plugged into a timer at the origin sight of the fire was also revealed.
The overall total damage estimate is still be assessed.
A 49-year-old Sarnia man has been arrested and charged with the following offence:
– Arson – Damage to Property
He was released on an undertaking with a court date of August 12, 2025.
