Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 40-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a string of property damage incidents early Thursday morning in downtown Chatham.
Between 1:15 and 1:24 a.m. on October 30, police received several reports of smashed windows on King Street, Queen Street and Wellington Street. Investigators said a male suspect was seen breaking the rear window of a parked vehicle on King Street East before damaging a bus stop booth on Wellington Street and striking the window of a nearby property.
Minutes later, another incident was reported on Queen Street, where the front window of a business was shattered. Shortly after, police were called to a King Street West business after an alarm was triggered and found the front door had been smashed.
Officers used CCTV footage to identify the suspect, who was located on Wellington Street around 1:32 a.m. and arrested.
The accused was charged with five counts of mischief under $5,000. Police said he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft under $5,000, possession under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, identity theft and unauthorized use of a credit card.
He was taken to police headquarters and held for bail.
