OPP officials allege: Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by an OPP officer early Sunday in Essex County.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit says the collision happened around 4:25 a.m. on County Road 20 near Iler Road in Harrow.
According to police, an officer from the Essex County OPP detachment was involved in the crash. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by Essex-Windsor EMS, where they were pronounced dead.
The SIU has invoked its mandate and has taken over the investigation. The OPP says it cannot provide further information while the inquiry is ongoing.
