OPP officials allege: Ontario Provincial Police officers in Lambton County are now equipped with body-worn cameras as part of an effort to enhance accountability, transparency and public safety.
The rollout follows the successful introduction of in-car cameras with automated licence plate recognition technology. Each officer will wear a body-worn camera on the front of their uniform, clearly visible to anyone they interact with. When in standby mode, the device shows a green light, which turns red when recording begins.
“The introduction of body-worn cameras is another step forward in enhancing public trust and transparency. These cameras will support our officers in their duties while reinforcing our commitment to accountability and community safety,” said Inspector Ross Stuart, Lambton OPP interim detachment commander.
Officers who have completed training will begin using the cameras immediately, with full deployment expected as soon as practicable.
The Lambton OPP said the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships with the communities it serves and to building a safer, more transparent Lambton County.
