Environment Canada is warning of rain tonight followed by gusty winds and rapidly falling temperatures on Friday for Chatham-Kent.
Rain is expected to overspread the area tonight, with total rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 millimetres. As temperatures fall rapidly below the freezing mark on Friday, the rain is forecast to change over to flurries from west to east. The shift in conditions will be caused by a strong cold front moving through the region.
Southerly winds will abruptly shift to westerly and northwesterly behind the cold front, with wind gusts reaching between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour. Winds are expected to gradually ease through Friday evening. Flurries and snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are also anticipated following the front.
Environment Canada warns that rapidly falling temperatures may cause surfaces to become icy and slippery, and roads and walkways could be hazardous. Travel may become difficult at times, and local utility outages are possible.
The weather system is expected to impact the area from tonight through Friday night.
For information related to potential flooding, residents are advised to consult their local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Updates and additional details are available at Ontario.ca/floods.
