Woman charged after vehicle driven into river in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A woman has been charged after a vehicle ended up in the water near a boat launch in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the river near Kingsway Drive at about 9:49 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2025. Police determined that a single occupant had driven the vehicle down the boat launch and into the water.

Emergency services, including fire crews and EMS, attended the scene and safely removed the driver from the vehicle. Police say the driver was not injured. The partially submerged vehicle was later removed by a towing service.

A 48-year-old woman from Chatham was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving.
