Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 27-year-old Merlin man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant related to a retail theft investigation.
Chatham-Kent police say the investigation dates back to June 22, 2024, when officers responded to a theft at a business on Erie Street in Merlin. Police allege the accused selected merchandise, concealed the items and paid for a separate purchase before leaving the store without paying for the concealed goods.
As a result of the investigation, officers laid charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest.
On Jan. 30, 2026, just after noon, officers located the accused on Middle Line in Tilbury. He was arrested on the strength of the warrant, transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date.
