OPP officials allege: One person has been charged after allegedly failing to stop for a school bus in St. Clair Township during the “Safety Stops Here” school bus safety initiative.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Lambton County detachment were conducting traffic enforcement shortly before 3 p.m. on March 3, 2026, when they observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a school bus.
Police say the driver, a 75-year-old St. Clair Township resident, was charged with fail to stop for school bus-signal lights-meeting contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was issued Provincial Offence Notices in relation to the charge and released from the scene. The accused will have fifteen days to decide if they will pay the fine, contest the charges in provincial court or meet with the prosecutor to discuss early resolution.
Passing a stopped school bus with red lights flashing not only places young lives at risk but can result in a fine ranging from $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence.
Police are reminding drivers that they are required to stop when meeting a school bus with its red signal lights flashing, and that the owner or driver of any vehicle that fails to do so may be charged.
Anyone who observes dangerous or concerning driving behaviour is asked to contact Lambton County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
