Ontario Provincial Police in West Region laid hundreds of charges during a week-long traffic safety campaign focused on intersections.
The “Stop. Look. Live.” campaign ran from June 15 to June 21 and combined enforcement with public education efforts aimed at reducing dangerous driving behaviours.
During the campaign, officers laid 354 charges and issued 126 warnings. Police said the offences primarily involved motorists failing to stop at stop signs, failing to obey red or amber lights and failing to yield the right-of-way.
Police also recorded 46 intersection-related collisions during the campaign period, including one fatal crash, 15 collisions involving injuries and 30 property damage collisions.
“The behaviours we continue to see at intersections are both concerning and preventable. Every failure to stop, every missed observation, and every decision to rush through an intersection carries the potential for devastating consequences. These are not just traffic violations-they are choices that can result in serious injury or loss of life. We are asking all drivers to take that extra moment to stop, look, and ensure it is safe before proceeding.
That moment can save a life,” said Staff Sgt. Julie McLeod of West Region OPP Traffic Safety and Marine.
