Lambton County OPP is reminding residents to understand Ontario’s rules and regulations governing e-bikes before taking to the road.
Police said power-assisted bicycles must meet provincial requirements, including limits on motor output, assisted speed and weight, while riders must be at least 16 years old and wear an approved helmet.
E-bike riders are also required to obey the same traffic laws that apply to cyclists and are prohibited from using controlled-access highways such as Highway 402.
Police noted e-bikes are not permitted on the Point Edward waterfront pathway between the casino and the eastern portion of the park system, and riders should watch for posted signs and local bylaw restrictions.
Lambton OPP encouraged anyone considering alternative forms of transportation to familiarize themselves with the rules governing their use.
