Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Three people are facing impaired driving charges following separate investigations in Tilbury and Thamesville between July 3 and July 4.
Police say the first incident occurred at about 4:07 p.m. on July 3 after reports that a man had entered a business on Queen Street in Tilbury, purchased a bottle of vodka, drank it in the parking lot and then drove away.
Officers located the vehicle and arrested the 65-year-old driver for impaired operation. Following breath testing at Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, he was also charged with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released on a Form 10 with a court date of Aug. 11.
Later that night, at about 11:15 p.m., police responded after a vehicle left Tecumseh Line and entered a neighbouring field. Officers determined the driver had been drinking and requested a breath sample using an Approved Screening Device, which registered a fail.
A 21-year-old Tilbury man was charged with impaired operation and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released on a Form 10 with a court date of Aug. 7.
The third investigation began at about 1:24 a.m. on July 4 when police conducted a traffic stop on Victoria Street in Thamesville.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation and, following breath testing at police headquarters, was also charged with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. Police said he was released on a Form 10 with a future court date.
