SIU investigating injury following OPP arrest in Grand Bend

OPP officials allege: Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a person sustained a serious injury during an arrest by the Ontario Provincial Police in Grand Bend last month.

Lambton County OPP said officers responded to a disturbance at a business on Main Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. on June 13. One person was taken into custody during the incident.

Police said the individual was injured during the arrest and was transported to hospital, where they were treated and later released.

The OPP said it was notified on June 26 that the injury was believed to be serious and subsequently informed the province’s Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU officially invoked its mandate on July 8 and has launched an investigation into the incident.

The OPP said it will not provide any further information while the SIU investigation is underway. Media inquiries related to the investigation are being directed to the SIU.
