The Dresden Jr. Kings have launched a Catch the Ace progressive lottery in partnership with Dresden Legion Branch 113 and the Dresden Kinsmen.
The first draw takes place Friday, August 7, with an estimated jackpot of $250. Tickets can be purchased through dresdenjrkingscatchtheace.ca.
The Dresden Jr. Kings are a community-owned, non-profit junior ice hockey team based in Dresden that competes in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s West Conference Stobbs Division, playing home games at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre. Proceeds from the lottery will support program operations, ice rentals and equipment needs for the team, as well as the construction of a new, accessible dressing room facility at the local arena and other community projects and charities.
In the Catch the Ace lottery, tickets are sold each week for a chance to select the Ace of Spades from a deck of 52 playing cards, each sealed in a numbered envelope. One ticket is drawn weekly, with the holder winning 20 per cent of that week’s sales. The envelope matching the ticket number is then opened; if it does not contain the Ace of Spades, that card is removed from future draws and the jackpot grows by 30 per cent of that week’s sales. The lottery continues until the Ace of Spades is drawn, at which point the winning ticket holder claims both the weekly prize and the full jackpot.
