Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police say they were caught attempting to steal a trailer from a Grand Avenue East business, an incident that also led to the discovery of a stolen ATV.
Police responded to the business in Chatham at approximately 9:20 p.m. Tuesday after a reported theft in progress.
An employee had reported seeing a pickup truck attempting to steal a 24-foot flatbed trailer from the property, police say. Officers arrived shortly after and arrested two people in connection with the incident.
Further investigation revealed a Yamaha Kodiak ATV in the bed of the pickup truck had previously been reported stolen in a separate investigation, according to police.
A 31-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were each arrested and charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Both were taken to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters, where they were held pending a bail hearing.
