Mitchell’s Bay residents to see mailing address change this fall

Residents of Mitchell’s Bay will see a change to their mailing address this fall after Canada Post agreed to a request from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to update the place name used in the community’s mail.

Beginning in October 2026, residents who currently use “Dover Centre” in their mailing address will instead use “Mitchell’s Bay.” Postal codes and all other address details will remain the same.

“This change recognizes Mitchell’s Bay as the distinct and proud community that residents know it to be,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff. “We appreciate Canada Post working with the Municipality to provide residents with a mailing address that better reflects the place they call home.”

Residents and businesses affected by the change will receive information directly from Canada Post in September explaining the change and outlining any steps they may need to take.

“This may appear to be a small change, but community identity matters,” said Rhonda Jubenville. “Mitchell’s Bay residents are proud of their community, and it is important that their mailing address accurately represents where they live.”

Canada Post will provide complimentary mail-forwarding service for one year to help ensure a smooth transition, meaning mail and parcels using the previous “Dover Centre” name will still reach customers during that period.

“We appreciate Canada Post working with the Municipality to make this change possible and helping make the transition as easy as possible for residents and businesses,” said Coun. Jamie McGrail. “Having Mitchell’s Bay reflected in their mailing address is a meaningful benefit for the community and reinforces the identity residents are proud to call their own.”

Once they receive official notification, residents and businesses are encouraged to update their mailing address with organizations, service providers, businesses, friends and family.
