Household Hazardous Waste Day set for Oct. 13

Chatham-Kent’s next Household Hazardous Waste Day is set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veolia Environmental Services, 141 Prosperity Way, Chatham.

Residents can safely drop off household hazardous waste, including batteries, paints and solvents, free of charge.

The municipality encourages residents to follow the “BUD” rule when it comes to hazardous materials: buy only what you need, use it all up, and drop off the rest at a local drop-off site to be recycled, reprocessed or safely disposed of.

Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles, as staff will remove the items; containers will not be emptied or returned. A list of acceptable materials is available on the municipality’s website.

One more Household Hazardous Waste Day is scheduled for this year, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the Prosperity Way location.
