Chatham man facing multiple charges after alleged assault in moving vehicle

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 45-year-old Chatham man is facing five charges after an alleged assault involving a vehicle in Chatham early Thursday.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a report of an assault on Oct. 1 involving the accused and a 39-year-old woman, both from Chatham, who were travelling in a vehicle.

The investigation revealed that an argument had escalated into a physical altercation. Police allege the accused pulled the victim’s hair, threw various tools from within the vehicle at her, and uttered threats before removing her from the vehicle and leaving the area. No additional medical attention was needed.

Police later located the accused at a residence in Chatham. Further investigation also revealed historical incidents of assault involving the victim.

The man was charged with assault, uttering threats to cause death, assault with a weapon, a second count of assault, and assault causing bodily harm. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where he is currently being held for a bail hearing.
