Chatham-Kent Public Library is celebrating Ontario Public Library Week by hosting a How-To Festival and a community screening of “The Librarians.”
Ontario Public Library Week runs from Oct. 18 to Oct. 24 this year, with the theme “Loud for Libraries / Haut et fort pour les bibliothèques.”
“The Librarians” will be shown at the Chatham Capitol Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. The documentary explores the growing wave of book challenges and bans across North America, highlighting librarians, community members and young readers standing up for intellectual freedom and the freedom to read. The free screening is open to all community members.
For the How-To Festival, community members can place holds on How-To themed “grab and go” kits or attend in-person How-To programs. Registration for the kits opens Oct. 5, with pickup available at any CKPL branch starting Oct. 19.
Available kits include a woven star ornament, a paint-by-number art piece, a folded book art sculpture, a reusable bag, candy sushi, and two kids’ kits: a friend that bends and a library fish.
To register for a kit or in-person program, residents can contact Ask CKPL staff by phone at 519-354-2940, by text at 519-401-7174, or by email at cklibrary@chatham-kent.ca. More information on in-person How-To events is available at ckpl.ca/programcalendar.
