Tilbury man charged after burnout damages Erieau veterans memorial crosswalk

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 19-year-old Tilbury man has been charged after damage to the Veterans Memorial Crosswalk in downtown Erieau.

Chatham-Kent police received a report on July 27 that a vehicle had caused significant damage to the crosswalk and roadway. Investigators determined the damage occurred on July 25 at approximately 2 a.m., when a pickup truck performed a burnout over the memorial crosswalk.

Police used CCTV footage to identify the suspect’s vehicle and followed up on information from the public, helping officers identify the truck and confirm the driver. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Oct. 3, at approximately 8:01 p.m., the accused was arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000. He was later released with a court date of Nov. 16. Police thanked members of the public who came forward with information.
