Women in Trades panel set for Chatham-Kent Education and Training Fair
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s CKJobs and Community Attraction and Promotion are hosting a Women in Trades live panel discussion on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. at the Chatham-Kent John D. Bradley Centre, 565 Richmond St., Chatham.
The panel, titled “Women Who Build: Real Stories, Career Paths & Opportunities in the Trades,” will take place during the Education and Training Fair. It is designed to connect women with career opportunities, industry professionals, employers and training resources.
Organizers say Chatham-Kent and Ontario continue to experience significant skilled trades labour shortages, while women remain underrepresented in many trades occupations. Barriers include limited awareness of career pathways, a lack of female mentors and role models, financial challenges, and difficulty accessing industry networks and apprenticeship opportunities.
Local women who have built careers in skilled trades and non-traditional occupations will share their career journeys, challenges and advice for women considering the trades. Panelists have not yet been announced.
Topics will include opportunities in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, transportation, HVAC and welding; education, training, certification and apprenticeship pathways; common myths about working in the trades; strategies for succeeding in traditionally male-dominated industries; and funding programs and community supports available to women pursuing trades careers.
The event is open to students, job seekers, career changers, parents, educators and anyone curious about trades careers. Organizers say increasing women’s participation in the trades will help address workforce shortages, support succession planning as skilled workers retire, and strengthen local businesses and the Chatham-Kent economy.
